SAVANNA — The Eastland/Pearl City Wildcats went to Savanna looking to secure their place in the playoffs. Mission accomplished — with a 35-0 victory over the Thunder.
Both teams were having problems with ball control on a wet field, but the first big break of the night came on EPC’s second possession.
The Wildcats had driven across midfield with Carson Walker back in shotgun formation. An errant snap hit the end coming across in motion with the Thunder jumping quickly on the ball, but a procedure penalty gave EPC back the ball.
The next play, Walker hit Tyler Zumdahl for a 52-yard score.
An interception put the Wildcats back in business and it only took one play, a 35-yard Jerimie Coombes run, to put the lead at 14.
EPC then got an 8-yard TD reception and 32-yard scoring run by Coombes. Walker completed the scoring with a 54-yard run.
Walker was 10 of 13 for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Coombes ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns and caught one more for 8 yards.
Cole Miller had eight receptions for 99 yards and a score.
Travis Morhardt had 29 yards on seven carries for the Thunder, while David Walter added 45 on 12 rushes. Justin Ferguson caught four for 57 yards.
