Stockton 49, Prophetstown 40: Dennis Young didn’t know how Prophetstown would react if the Stockton girls basketball team threw a press at them.
So the Stockton coach gave it a shot, and the Blackhawks came out with a tough, full-court press that flustered the Prophets into 16 first-half turnovers as Stockton built a lead that ballooned to as much as 20 and withstood a late Prophetstown rally to win, 49-40, and advance to the River Ridge Sectional final on Thursday night.
Forward Haley Magee scored 11 of her 17 points in the first half to lead Stockton.
