DURAND — A dominating ground game and stifling defense helped Stockton record its first victory of the season Friday, beating Durand 35-10.
The Blackhawks rolled up 347 yards and were led by running back Jordan Arand, who carried 28 times for 192 yards.
On its opening drive of the game, Stockton used a 42-yard kickoff return by Brock Hawley to establish field position, then paired two first downs to set up the first score of the game.
Running back Brandon Wampfler burst 3 yards through the middle for the touchdown, and the two-point conversion failed.
STOCKTON — After having been shut out for the first three games of the season, Stockton finally scored, couldn't score enough to hang with Orangeville in a 28-6 loss.
Stockton took their first possession 55 yards, reeling off three first downs against the Orangeville Broncos. Brandon Wampfler capped the drive with a 1-yard burst through the line, but a 2-point conversion failed.
STOCKTON – For the third straight week, Stockton was unable to put a point on the board. In a game far closer than the final score would indicate, East Dubuque came away with a 22-0 victory.
Until the final minutes of the game, Stockton fought East Dubuque to a tough defensive standstill, holding the Warriors to a single touchdown since the 4:40 mark in the first quarter. A steady rain produced conditions that slowed both teams on offense, but the sloppy field did not contribute to any major turnovers.
STOCKTON — The Milledgeville Missiles may be short on personnel this year, but they certainly are not short on speed and power. On an evening filled with first-game expectations on both sides, Milledgeville showed the Stockton Blackhawks why they are picked by many to top the NUIC—Upstate Conference, winning 46-0.
“As crazy as it sounds, I was not disappointed in our defense,” Stockton coach Chris Thornton said. “Sure, we gave up a couple of big running plays, but it was our special team play that we need to work on.”
