PECATONICA – The battle between a pair of undefeated NUIC teams did not pan out Friday night.
A steady rainfall and a speedy Missile defense grounded Pecatonica’s passing attack, and led by quarterback Kirk Engelkens’ arm and legs, Milledgeville rolled over the Indian hosts 28-6. Engelkens rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown and threw for 72 more with a TD pass as the No. 3-ranked (Class 1A) Missiles stayed on track.
PECATONICA — It’s not always an easy transition from junior varsity to varsity — and Pecatonica’s junior quarterback Dakota Longenecker was feeling the effects of first-game jitters from the pre-game warm-ups to the first few sets of downs for the Indians.
But he found himself in the second half and accounted for two of the five touchdowns Pecatonica scored as the Indians defeated South Beloit 34-6.
“I felt comfortable at first but coming under the light, everything changed,” Longenecker said.
Pecatonica fumbled on its first play of the game on what appeared to be a botched handoff.
