Belvidere 68, Woodstock Marian 61 (OT): In regulation, which ended in a 54-54 tie, neither Belvidere nor Woodstock Marian led by more than four points. That all changed in overtime when the Bucs grabbed a 64-56 lead and coasted to a 68-61 win.
“What a great game,” Belvidere coach Aaron Pearson said. “With how even both teams were, I knew it was going to come down to the final couple minutes.”
Andrew Eck, Matt Carroll, Tyler Barr and Patrick Mc-Knight combined to go 9-for-10 from the free-throw line in overtime for the Bucs.
“Free throws is what won it for us,” Pearson said. “That, and we wanted it more in the fourth quarter and overtime. We’ve lost a lot of close games in the last couple minutes, and I think that helped us.”
A half-court shot at the end of the third by Zach Otten and a blocked shot by Ben Krol early in the fourth gave the Hurricanes momentum, but Burns later came back with five straight points to give the Bucs a 50-49 lead. In the heads-up play of the game, McKnight was the only player from either team to go for a rebound on missed one-and-one free throw and converted it for lay up for a 52-49 lead.
