Rockford Christian 50, Keith 48

Rockford Christian 50, Keith 48: Amy Hicks’ game-winning jump-shot with 1.2 seconds remaining handed Rockford Christian a 50-48 overtime win over Keith on Tuesday.

It also handed the Royals their first Indian Trails Conference title.

“The girls just went crazy when we finally won it. This is such a great group, and they deserved it,” Christian head coach Terry Gulley said. “This was one of those games where whoever got the ball last was going to win.”

Hicks hit a free throw with 30 seconds left and Bryn Kittle went 1-for-2 from the line with 17 seconds to go to send the game into OT. Hicks scored six of her 26 points in the extra frame, and she finished with 16 rebounds, five steals and four assists as well.

Rockford Christian got the ball back in a tie game with 26 seconds left in overtime, and Gulley called his last timeout to set up a play for Hicks.

“We spread the floor, and told Amy to take the shot,” Gulley said. “She took it right at them.”

The 5-foot-8 junior guard lost her defender, drove to the baseline and nailed a four-foot jumper just before the buzzer sounded. The win bumped Rockford Christian’s overall record to 19-3 and raised its conference-clinching record to 10-1 on the year.
