Princeton 68, Byron 55

Princeton’s 14-man rotation paved the way in a 68-55 nonconference boys basketball win over Byron on Monday.

“They were switching five guys out at a time,” Byron guard Kyle Smith said. “They just beat us down.”

Smith led Byron with 22 points and Adam Head added 17. Byron led 14-8 in the first quarter, but Princeton took control with a 12-0 run and wasn’t threatened.

“Every game this season, we’ve had at least 10 guys in the scoring column,” Princeton coach Jesse Brandt said. “We definitely shared the ball.”

Byron was without forward Doug Lillibridge, who had an ankle sprain, while Princeton got key minutes from a pair of 6-foot-7 post players, Ryne Vrana and Garrett Youngren.

“That’s a nice luxury when you can start 6-7 and bring 6-7 off the bench,” Byron coach Tom Schmidt said.

Byron did close to within 62-52 in the fourth quarter, but turnovers plagued them.

“We made a lot of mistakes,” Smith said. “We didn’t have it mentally.”
