Oregon sends out a warning to the Big Northern West

OREGON - If Oregon's 44-19 win over North Boone (1-1) wasn't convincing enough, fair warning needs to be given to the remaining seven teams on its schedule.

Starting next week, the Hawks (2-0) will be at full strength as starting quarterback Ryan McWethy and two-way lineman Ben Bruns return after sitting out the first two games for disciplinary reasons.

Coach John Bothe also hopes to have injured defensive spark plug Robbie Brink back, as well.

"Once those guys get their feet under them, we'll be a better team," Bothe said.

The Hawks were pretty good against North Boone, racking up 344 yards rushing, nearly all against an 8-man defensive front. The Hawks dared North Boone to stop their rushing game, attempting nary a pass.

"What can we do," North Boone coach Aaron Sullivan said. "They're a bigger, stronger, more superior team."

Oregon grabbed a 30-6 halftime lead on touchdowns by Nick Snyder, Carson Andrew (2) and Nick McKeown. The Hawks were also aided by first-half interceptions by Jeff Wehmhoefer and Nick Gallardo.

"They're as good of a team as we've seen in the three years we've been in the conference," Sullivan said.

The Vikings did threaten in the third quarter after Oregon's first two drives resulted in fumbles.

Sophomore quarterback Alex Albrecht (231 passing yards) found Christian Embry for a 5-yard touchdown pass to make it 30-12.

"After our picks and getting hit pretty hard, their young quarterback hung in there," Bothe said. "I was scared to death in the third quarter."

Snyder, considered the BNC's top player, and Ethan Gale put the game away for Oregon with two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

For the second week in a row, Jon Albrecht had over 100 yards receiving for North Boone, but also served as a source of bulletin board material for Oregon players.

"One of their sophomores (Albrecht) was interviewed after they beat Winnebago and said varsity ball wasn't that hard," Andrew said. "Even though he was joking, we wanted to show him what varsity ball was really like."

"We had a little fun with that," Bothe said. "I'll tell you, North Boone is a program on the rise with the young talent they have."

The Albrecht brothers, Tyler Bielski and Mitch Mischng keyed an impressive 69-yard drive on the Vikings' opening possession to tie the game, 6-6.

"We showed we can move the ball," Sullivan said.
