Boys Rdp. Nov. 25: Jefferson starts season with win at Mundelein Tournament

MUNDELEIN — Four players scored in double figures to lead Jefferson to a 61-47 win over Maine West at the Mundelein Holiday Tournament Monday.

Thaddeus Perry led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Mario Manns followed with 12 points, while Jordan Kerley and Mershon Wilkes each added 10 points.

“We were up by three at half and then made a little adjustment with our press, and it seemed to work well for us,” Jefferson’s first-year coach Todd Brannan said. “I thought our defense pressure is what turned the game around in the second half. Our defense led to some good possessions on offense, and we shared the ball real well.”

Wilkes also had six assists and six steals.

Oregon Tournament
OREGON — Doug Lillibridge drained four 3-pointers to lead Byron to a 62-51 win over Rockford Christian on the first day of the Oregon Thanksgiving Tournament. Lillibridge finished with 17 points for Byron, while Kyle Smith added two treys and 13 points.

Sophomore Brayden Teuscher led Rockford Christian with 16 points, and Drew Anderson followed with 14.

Lutheran 57, River Ridge 44: Eric Widstrom’s 17 points paced the Crusaders, who pulled away with a 15-1 run in the third quarter.

Andrew Wieting chipped in 14 points for Lutheran, while Charles Deneen added 14 points.

Oregon 69, Durand 29: Ryan Rosenbaum had 19 points to lead the Hawks, while Nathan Todd had three 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. Ben Jacobs chipped in 10 points.

Genoa-Kingston 63, Milledgeville 37: Scott Suchy started the season with four 3-pointers and finished with 24 points for the Cogs, who jumped out to a 22-2 first-quarter lead. Kirk Engelkens went 10-for-13 in free throws and finished with 16 points for the Missiles.

Crystal Lake Central Tournament
CRYSTAL LAKE — Belvidere North dropped its first game of the season with a 57-49 fall to Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge at the CLC Coaches for Cancer Tournament. Prairie Ridge outscored North 18-7 in the second quarter. Jack Adams led North with 19.

Pecatonica Tournament
PECATONICA — Antonio Little had four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead South Beloit to a 67-48 win against Freeport Aquin on the opening night of the Pecatonica Tournament. Denzel Woods followed with three treys and 17 points. Matt Ennis (12) and Jory Sturdevant (10) also scored in double figures for South Beloit. Danny Hauser led the Bulldogs with 14 points.

Pecatonica 47, Stockton 30: Brock Day had 12 points for Pecatonica, which jumped out to a 16-3 lead after the first quarter. Alex Kriebs had 13 points to lead Stockton.

Hoops For Healing Tournament
BELVIDERE — David Brown started his senior season with 22 points to lead Hononegah to a 53-39 win against Cary-Grove at the Hoops For Healing Tournament. Mario Donaldson and Matt Carroll added 12 and nine points, respectively. Hononegah trailed 23-20 at halftime but took the lead on a 14-2 third-quarter run.

Lake Zurich 78, Belvidere 42: Andrew Eck led the Bucs in their season opener with 14 points, and David Delaney added 11.

Guilford 58, Woodstock 46
WOODSTOCK — Leandre Harmon poured in 26 points to lead Guilford to a 58-46 season-opening win over Woodstock. Dontay Hanson chipped in 12 points for the Vikings.
